The Athletics
The Athletics are a Major League Baseball franchise with a history that stretches back to 1901. The club began as the Philadelphia Athletics and quickly became one of the dominant teams of the early American League under longtime manager Connie Mack. During that era, the team captured five World Series championships and established a reputation as one of baseball’s premier organizations.

The franchise relocated to Kansas City in 1955 and later moved to Oakland in 1968. In Oakland, the Athletics built another championship legacy during the early 1970s, when the team won three consecutive World Series titles from 1972 through 1974. Key figures during that run included Reggie Jackson, Catfish Hunter, and Rollie Fingers.

The Athletics returned to prominence in the late 1980s, winning the 1989 World Series during a period that featured stars such as Rickey Henderson and Mark McGwire. In later decades, the organization became known for its analytical approach to roster building under general manager Billy Beane, an approach widely recognized through the book and film Moneyball.

Despite financial challenges and the aging Oakland Coliseum, the Athletics have continued to compete through player development and innovative strategy. The franchise now prepares for a new phase in its history with plans to relocate to Las Vegas.
