New York Jets
The New York Jets are a professional football team based in the New York metropolitan area, competing in the National Football League (NFL) as a member of the AFC East division. Founded in 1959 as the Titans of New York, the franchise joined the American Football League (AFL) in 1960 before rebranding as the Jets in 1963. The team achieved its greatest triumph in 1969, when quarterback Joe Namath famously guaranteed victory before leading the Jets to a stunning upset over the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III, helping legitimize the AFL before its merger with the NFL in 1970. The Jets share MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey with the New York Giants, making them one of only two NFL teams to share a venue. Their fan base is known for its passion, resilience, and the signature “J-E-T-S, Jets! Jets! Jets!” chant that echoes through the stadium on game days. While the Jets’ championship history is limited, their cultural impact is significant. They remain a symbol of New York grit and optimism, and their loyal fan base continues to support the team through its rebuilding phases with hopes of another historic run like the one Namath led over half a century ago.
