Cleveland Browns
The Cleveland Browns are a professional football team based in Cleveland, Ohio, competing in the National Football League (NFL) as a member of the AFC North division. Founded in 1946 by coach Paul Brown (for whom the team is named), the Browns originally played in the All-America Football Conference (AAFC), where they dominated by winning all four league championships before joining the NFL in 1950. They quickly continued their success, winning four NFL championships (1950, 1954, 1955, and 1964), with legendary players such as quarterback Otto Graham, kicker Lou Groza, and running back Jim Brown, widely regarded as one of the greatest football players of all time. The Browns’ fortunes declined in later decades, highlighted by painful playoff defeats in the 1980s, including the infamous “The Drive” and “The Fumble” against the Denver Broncos. In 1996, the franchise controversially relocated to Baltimore and became the Ravens, but the Browns’ name, colors, and history were preserved, and the team was reactivated as an expansion franchise in 1999. Since then, the Browns have endured many rebuilding years, though their passionate fan base has remained loyal through decades of challenges. In recent years, the Browns have shown signs of resurgence, making the playoffs in the 2020 season and earning a Wild Card victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers—their first postseason win since 1994. The franchise is currently led by head coach Kevin Stefanski, who has emphasized balanced offense and defense, and features star players such as Myles Garrett, one of the league’s premier pass rushers. The Cleveland Browns hold a unique place in NFL history, defined by early dominance, decades of struggle, and one of the most loyal fan bases in sports.
