Goldbacks resemble standard paper currency in shape but are made with thin layers of 24-karat gold. Initially introduced in Utah following the Utah Legal Tender Act of 2019, they serve as a voluntary currency, allowing transactions at the vendor's discretion. Since then, additional states—Nevada, New Hampshire, Wyoming, South Dakota, Florida and Oklahoma—have each launched their own Goldbacks in subsequent years, with Arizona recently becoming the seventh state to adopt this unique form of currency.
Currency Highlights:
- Contains 1/200 (0.005 oz) of .999 fine gold.
- Individual notes are housed in a currency sleeve or sealed pouch.
- Face: The Arizona Five depicts a law woman representing justice, courage and order in Tombstone, Arizona at the 1881 O.K. Corral gunfight.
- Made in the USA by Goldback Inc., using proprietary Aurum® technology to create durable, gold-backed currency.

About the Arizona Five Goldback
This Arizona Goldback design honors the virtue Lex et Ordo (Law and Order) through a vivid depiction of Tombstone, Arizona, one of the most storied towns of the Old West. The artwork draws inspiration from the 1881 gunfight at the O.K. Corral, when the Earp brothers and Doc Holliday faced off against the Cochise County Cowboys—a showdown that lasted less than a minute but became legend.
At the center of the design stands a determined law woman, embodying the spirit of Lex et Ordo. She strides forward with Virgil Earp’s U.S. Marshal badge pinned proudly to her chest, symbolizing courage, justice, and the steadfast pursuit of order amid chaos. Her composure reflects the discipline and restraint that true law and order demand.
The background features the O.K. Corral sign, grounding the scene in Tombstone’s historic streets. A Gila monster crawls across the dusty earth, representing the danger and unpredictability of frontier life. Nearby, desert daisies bloom—a subtle nod to Doc Holliday’s famous retort, “You’re a daisy if you do.” Together, these elements connect Arizona’s law-and-order legacy to the moral virtue it represents: integrity in the face of adversity.
Along the bottom edge of the note is engraved the enduring principle:
“Fast is fine, but accuracy is everything.” — Wyatt Earp
Goldbacks
The Goldback® is a revolutionary form of currency crafted from 24-karat gold, offering a reliable alternative as the American dollar continues to lose value. Each Goldback is designed to preserve purchasing power over time, addressing the age-old “small coin problem” by allowing people to make everyday transactions with real gold. While inflation erodes the value of paper currency, the Goldback’s intrinsic gold content ensures that it will hold its worth.
Recognized as legal tender in states like Utah, Nevada, Wyoming, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Florida, and Oklahoma Goldbacks can be traded or bartered like other non-current forms of currency worldwide. This currency blends gold’s enduring value with modern craftsmanship, providing a versatile and practical means of exchange that won’t depreciate, making it a sound choice for those seeking stability in their everyday spending.
