The Perth Mint Nugget Series:
Since 1986, The Perth Mint has produced the premium legal tender bullion coin program. Renowned for its exceptional .9999 purity and annually changing designs, the collection was rebranded to feature kangaroos in 1989 but continues to release occasional tributes to historic nuggets. The original Nugget designs were struck 1986 through 1989. The early releases feature artistic representations of famous Australian gold discoveries crafted by renowned designer Stuart Devlin. These included the Welcome Stranger, Hand of Faith, Golden Eagle and Little Hero. In 1989, The Perth Mint transitioned to the Kangaroo. The Kangaroo is more globally recognizable as a symbol of Australia and renamed the "Australian Kangaroo" in 2008. There are several anniversary and special editions as The Perth Mint periodically revives the historic nugget designs for collector editions, such as the 35th Annivesary and the 40th Anniversary Gold Nugget Proof coins.
This 2002 5-coin Australian Gold Nugget Set from The Perth Mint was stuck to a mintage of only 515 sets worldwide. This is for just the coins as there are no capsule or original box.
