About Washington D.C. Goldback
The Washington, D.C. Goldback is a special single-issue commemorative release created to honor the 250th anniversary of the United States. Struck as a modern gold note, each Goldback contains 1/1000th troy ounce of .9999 fine 24K Gold, combining precious metal content with advanced design and security technology.
This release features an all-new design that blends historical symbolism with contemporary craftsmanship. Enhanced anti-counterfeiting measures include upgraded security elements and improved UV-reactive ink, now fully integrated into the front of the artwork for easy verification. Higher-resolution details, an updated Goldback logo, and a clean, modern typeface further distinguish this commemorative issue from earlier releases.
Available in both a standard version and a graded colorized version (coming soon), the Washington, D.C. Goldback offers options for both collectors and enthusiasts of innovative precious metal products. Unlike traditional state-issued Goldbacks, this issue is not part of a full state series. Instead, it stands alone as a limited commemorative honoring a milestone in American history.
While Goldbacks are recognized within the broader Goldback ecosystem, the Washington, D.C. Goldback is primarily intended as a collectible rather than a transactional note. Its limited nature and commemorative significance may position it at a premium compared to standard 1-denomination Goldbacks. Combining fine gold content, advanced security features, and meaningful historical tribute, the Washington, D.C. Goldback represents a unique addition to modern American numismatic collectibles.
Goldbacks
The Goldback® is a revolutionary form of currency crafted from 24-karat gold, offering a reliable alternative as the American dollar continues to lose value. Each Goldback is designed to preserve purchasing power over time, addressing the age-old “small coin problem” by allowing people to make everyday transactions with real gold. While inflation erodes the value of paper currency, the Goldback’s intrinsic gold content ensures that it will hold its worth.
Recognized as legal tender in states like Utah, Nevada, Wyoming, New Hampshire, South Dakota, and Florida, Goldbacks can be traded or bartered like other non-current forms of currency worldwide. This currency blends gold’s enduring value with modern craftsmanship, providing a versatile and practical means of exchange that won’t depreciate, making it a sound choice for those seeking stability in their everyday spending.

Love this one so much that I even ordered the graded elite colorized graded ms 70 version of this as well. I’ve order this twice from APMEX and both times with a quantity of 4 each. What’s cool is both times they sent me sequential serial numbers. Packed with care and shipped fast. Thank you APMEX!

While I'm not sold on the utility of Goldbacks, and don't like the "high premium," I added a small number of these to my stack. They arrived individually packaged in plastic sleeves and more than half had sequential serial numbers. The DC one's are a limited runand that's where I grew up. Overall I'm pleased, but for now will not be buying more.
- Pros
- Collectible (lower mintage)
- Mint Condition
- Bottom Line
- Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.

I am buying many of the lower denominations, not because I think they will be worth a fortune in the future, but because the designs and art work is just so remarkable looking. Also, some are inexpensive enough to give to friends and family for no special reason. This design was no different.
- Pros
- Attractive Design
- Collectible (lower mintage)
- Easy to Sell
- Bottom Line
- Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
