Humpback Whales:
Humpback whales (Megaptera novaeangliae) are large, migratory marine mammals known for their impressive size, long pectoral fins, and complex songs. They can grow up to about 16 meters (52 feet) long and weigh as much as 40 tons. Humpbacks are found in oceans around the world, traveling thousands of kilometers each year between cold, nutrient-rich feeding grounds and warm tropical breeding areas. They primarily feed on krill and small fish, using specialized techniques such as bubble-net feeding to trap their prey. One of their most remarkable features is their vocal behavior: males produce long, structured songs that can last for hours and are believed to play a role in mating. Once heavily hunted during the whaling era, humpback whale populations have been recovering in many regions due to international conservation efforts.
