Friedrich Wilhelm II was King of Prussia from 1786 until his death in 1797, succeeding his uncle, Frederick the Great. His reign saw Prussia involved in the partitions of Poland and wars against Revolutionary France. Unlike his predecessor, he focused less on military discipline and more on religious and cultural policies, promoting traditional values. Although Prussia expanded territorially under his rule, his leadership was often criticized for weakening the efficiency of the state.
