Gaius Julius Caesar
Julius Caesar was a Roman general, statesman, and dictator who played a critical role in the fall of the Roman Republic. He expanded Rome’s territories through his conquest of Gaul and demonstrated his power by crossing the Rubicon River in 49 BC, sparking a civil war. After defeating his rivals, he declared himself dictator for life, introducing reforms to strengthen Rome’s government and economy. In 44 BC, Caesar was assassinated by a group of senators, an event that ultimately led to the rise of the Roman Empire.
