Charlemagne
Charlemagne was King of the Franks and later crowned Emperor of the Romans in 800 AD. He greatly expanded his empire across much of Western and Central Europe through military conquests. On Christmas Day in 800, he was crowned emperor by Pope Leo III, strengthening the bond between the Frankish kingdom and the Catholic Church. His reign encouraged education, law, and culture in a revival known as the Carolingian Renaissance.
