Goldbacks resemble standard paper currency in shape but are made with thin layers of 24-karat gold. Initially introduced in Utah following the Utah Legal Tender Act of 2019, they serve as a voluntary currency, allowing transactions at the vendor's discretion. Since then, additional states have each launched their own Goldbacks in subsequent years, with Idaho recently becoming the eighth state to adopt this unique form of currency.

About Idaho One Goldback
The Idaho 1 Goldback depicts the virtue Fides, representing faith and trust, through the experience of pioneer families traveling the California Trail. Set at the City of Rocks, the scene shows a mother guiding her child across the open ground. Despite the uncertainty of their long journey, her calm and steady demeanor reflects quiet confidence. The child’s hand in hers symbolizes trust—the same trust that sustained pioneers as they crossed Idaho’s rugged landscape and laid the foundations for future communities.
The surrounding details anchor the scene in Idaho’s history. The granite spires of the City of Rocks rise in the background, landmarks that guided emigrants along the California Trail. Many travelers carved their names into the stone, and those markings remain visible today. Behind the mother and child, a covered wagon carries a group of travelers across the trail. Native wildlife surrounds the scene: a sagebrush lizard rests on a bush in the foreground, a pronghorn stands in the distance symbolizing endurance, and above them a great horned owl flies, representing vigilance.
The woman holds a small Bible as a symbol of personal faith. Inscribed on this denomination is a scripture that reflects the spirit of those who settled the region: “We walk by faith, not by sight.” This design honors the faith, trust, and perseverance that helped shape Idaho’s history and character.
GoldbacksThe Goldback® is a revolutionary form of currency crafted from 24-karat gold, offering a reliable alternative as the American dollar continues to lose value. Each Goldback is designed to preserve purchasing power over time, addressing the age-old “small coin problem” by allowing people to make everyday transactions with real gold. While inflation erodes the value of paper currency, the Goldback’s intrinsic gold content ensures that it will hold its worth.
Recognized as legal tender in many states, Goldbacks can be traded or bartered like other non-current forms of currency worldwide. This currency blends gold’s enduring value with modern craftsmanship, providing a versatile and practical means of exchange that won’t depreciate, making it a sound choice for those seeking stability in their everyday spending.
