The Idaho 100 Goldback features Libertas, symbolizing freedom earned through work and stewardship. Set at Shoshone Falls, the design honors the irrigation that transformed the Magic Valley.

Goldbacks resemble standard paper currency in shape but are made with thin layers of 24-karat gold. Initially introduced in Utah following the Utah Legal Tender Act of 2019, they serve as a voluntary currency, allowing transactions at the vendor's discretion. Since then, additional states have each launched their own Goldbacks in subsequent years, with Idaho recently becoming the eigth state to adopt this unique form of currency.

Currency Highlights:
  • Contains 1/10 oz (0.1 oz) of .999 fine gold.
  • Individual notes are housed in a protective plastic sleeve or sealed pouch.
  • Face: Depicts Libertas standing at Shoshone Falls with a shovel, while farmland, a crop duster, a cornucopia of Idaho crops and a soaring eagle symbolize freedom, agriculture and opportunity in the Magic Valley.
  • Made in the USA by Goldback Inc., using proprietary Aurum® technology to create durable, gold-backed currency.

About Idaho 100 Goldback
This artwork presents Libertas as the capstone virtue of the Idaho Goldback series, a role Liberty holds on every 100 Goldback. Set at Shoshone Falls in the Magic Valley, Libertas moves forward with purpose. She carries a shovel as a symbol of work, ingenuity, and responsibility.

In the background, Shoshone Falls—often called the “Niagara of the West”—cascades into the Snake River. They reference the irrigation systems that transformed southern Idaho through the Carey Act of 1894. By embracing the act, Idaho turned arid public land into productive farmland through privately built canals and reservoirs. Notable projects include Milner Dam and the Twin Falls Canal. These efforts reshaped the Magic Valley into one of the most productive agricultural regions in the West. The falls are a reminder of how water, law, and labor worked together to create lasting opportunity. The surrounding details reinforce this story. A crop duster passes overhead and cultivated fields stretch into the distance, representing Idaho’s continued leadership in agriculture. At Libertas’s feet, a cornucopia overflows with potatoes, sugar beets, wheat, and onions. Potato blossoms and syringa, Idaho’s official state flower, appear throughout the scene. A soaring eagle above reinforces the ideas of independence and vision. Together, these elements present Liberty through the lens of Idaho: freedom that’s earned through hard work and tied directly to the land.

Written on the design is the enduring scripture, “A blessing upon all that thou settest thine hand unto."

Goldbacks
The Goldback® is a revolutionary form of currency crafted from 24-karat gold, offering a reliable alternative as the American dollar continues to lose value. Each Goldback is designed to preserve purchasing power over time, addressing the age-old “small coin problem” by allowing people to make everyday transactions with real gold. While inflation erodes the value of paper currency, the Goldback’s intrinsic gold content ensures that it will hold its worth.

Recognized as legal tender in states like Utah, Nevada, Wyoming, New Hampshire, and South Dakota, Florida, Oklahoma, Arizona, and now Idaho; Goldbacks can be traded or bartered like other non-current forms of currency worldwide. This currency blends gold’s enduring value with modern craftsmanship, providing a versatile and practical means of exchange that won’t depreciate, making it a sound choice for those seeking stability in their everyday spending.
