In the late 1960s, the Defense Logistics Agency had over 165 million ounces of Silver in its stockpile. The government dumped the Silver into the open market in 1980 and 1981 to drive down Silver prices after the Hunt brothers tried to corner the market.

Ordered 4; one outstanding condition, one as described in write up, two heavily tarnished, rims black ( not just tarnish but so black wonder if not burned in some way) one of which looked like someone tried to clean and gave up. Should have skipped these.

I was lucky enough to get an alternate eagle on my coin. not the one seen in pictures. For a 41 year old coin, it came exactly as fate would have it, weathered and aged to perfection. I will not be cleaning the 41 years of history off of my coin. I placed it straight into its coin protector "while gloved" and back into the plastic Apmex shipped it in, where it will always stay, never to be resold.

Perfect Christmas gift for the family. Gave one to my nephew into Stranger Things and said “This is a 1oz silver coin minted in San Francisco in 1981 that I never even knew existed till last week and I wanted you to have one. So, if you ever need to slay a Stephen King demon with a silver bullet use this. Or just wait until after the economy reboots and this will be a several hundred-dollar coin.” Best. Timeline. Ever.

I liked the history of my coins, that they were minted from silver held by the US Assay Office. All the coins I received were in an uncirculated condition with very few bag marks, no stains or discoloration.. Very pleased with them.

its hard to believe these rounds were struck almost 40 years ago! theres zero tarnishing on them. all have some minor dings but theres absolutely no patina on ~40 year-old pure silver?
