The price of British 5 pound Gold coins is partially determined by supply and demand.

Supply and demand affects the price of Gold, which in turn affects the price of British 5 pound Gold coins. From British coins to medical devices, Gold is in demand for a wide range of uses, and the demand for the Precious Metal will continue to grow as more uses are discovered. The supply of Gold on earth is finite, and Gold is rarer to find than other metals like aluminum or iron, which means the price of Gold is higher than the more easily found metals. The price of Gold tends to rise when demand for commercial, industrial and personal uses increases.

Should I invest in British 5 pound Gold coins or Gold bars?

Deciding whether to invest in Gold coins or Gold bars really comes down to personal goals and preferences. Some investors prefer Gold bars because there is minimal markup over the Gold spot price, making them ideal for investing. Others choose Gold coins, like this British 5 pound Gold coin, because they are guaranteed by the British Royal Mint for weight, content and purity, and they represent more than just monetary value. Gold coins from the British Royal Mint also embody a piece of history, and each world coin is a work of art that you can hold in your hands and proudly show to family and friends.

These large British Gold coins feature the classic design of St. George slaying the dragon and contain more than 1 oz of Gold.

A very nice coin

Was this review helpful? Yes/ No

This is the most beautiful gold coin in my collection. I got a 1984 one with a young Queen. Image details and polish are amazing. Since it a large 22K gold coin, it has a nice long ping sound (to hear the ping, be careful to strike its edge with a plastic pan not inside the coin; the same rule applies to measuring its thickness -- measure the edge only). Very happy with this coin and will buy more when I can.

Crown gold

Was this review helpful? Yes/ No

Absolutely gorgeous coin in perfect shape; unfortunately for some of the reviewers they may not understand the actual composition of crown gold: it is 22 karat or 92.5% gold by weight and the copper content will give gold a slightly pinkish tone. My coin is stunning and the detail is absolutely perfect. I own several other standard sovereigns, some even going back into the 1800’s. It’s nice to have the larger coin with the extra weight over a standard 1 ounce coin. While it is a simple design it is classic and timeless. I too cannot understand why the other reviewers would rate it so low. I could not be more pleased with the product or the service from Apmex.

Must Own

Was this review helpful? Yes/ No

My 1981 5-pound sovereign is gorgeous. Everybody who is attracted to St. George slaying the dragon should own this coin because this engraving is large enough to see the many details. Although my coin did not come in a capsule, the detail would indicate that it is a proof coin. At very little cost above spot, I must say thank you to APMEX. I cannot begin to understand how other reviewers could have been disappointed.

Nice coin, except for tone

Was this review helpful? Yes/ No

Love the design of St George slaying the dragon. Have had sovereigns for over 40 years. However, this has too much of a copper tone to it. Was disappointed in the appearance. Looks like a big penny.

Nice coin, but not great.

Was this review helpful? Yes/ No

I bought this coin because of its size. And it is big. And well struck as would be expected from the Royal Mint. It is exactly as advertised. But that is the problem. It is, at the end of the day, just another sovereign, only bigger. There are other more appealing alternatives such as the 50 Peso or even a 1 oz coin such as the St. Gauden Double Eagle.

A Very Nice Coin

Was this review helpful? Yes/ No

At 1.1775 oz Troy, the £5 Sovereign certainly commands respect as it is noticeably larger and heavier than most other gold bullion coins. The £5 Sovereign offers much greater detail to Pistrucci's depiction of 'St. George slaying the dragon', bringing out the full grandeur of the design. The coin's 22k 'crown gold' composition, classical Gold Standard weight and timeless design make it a must have for any coin collection...

Stunning proof coin!

Was this review helpful? Yes/ No

I had been looking to purchase one of these for a while and decided to try Apmex as their return policy is exceptional, and I am glad I did! The coin I received was indeed a proof and looked to be uncirculated. The Sovereign is one of my favorite designs, and the 5lb Sovereign is the granddaddy of them. I am very happy with my purchase and will buy another when in stock.
