The 2-Rand coin is a bullion coin. Which means you are buying it primarily for the Au content. It contains the same .2354 of a Troy ounce of Au as the English sovereign coin. Minted in the same mint as the old English sovereigns were back in the day. The Au for each was both probably mined from the same old set of gold mines for all we know. The 2-Rand is the better deal because of the lower premium. When it comes to old or new gold coins. Do your homework. A great many coins from around the world have a similar or exactly the same sizes and or Au content. All things being equal means you want the lower cost premiums per coin. The 2-Rand bullion coin is a smart bet.
- Pros
- Recognized Brand
- Value (low premium over spot)
- Attractive Design
- Easy to Sell
- Bottom Line
- Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.

The 2-rand coins are either post-ZA independence Sovereigns, made in the same mint as the Empire-era South African Sovs, or baby Krugerrands (just depends on your perspective.) The quality of these coins is impeccable and they have the recognized South African Mint as their maker, so you can’t go wrong. I have bought a few from APMEX, for myself and for my mother’s portfolio, and again, you can’t miss with these. I’ve had a couple with small fingerprint marks, so if that bothers you, console yourself with the super low premium for fractionals. Otherwise, they have either BU luster or a prooflike finish. These little coins are arguably the BEST way to stack fractional gold.
- Pros
- Value (low premium over spot)
- Attractive Design
- Collectible (lower mintage)
- Mint Condition
- Recognized Brand
- Bottom Line
- Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.

It had a light finger print. and some small specks. background was nice and shiny. the springbok looked frosty and proof like, the obverse had a less proof, but still sharp appearance. I bought it as a smaller bullion piece because of low premium to some other coins this size.

- Value (low premium over spot)
- Collectible (lower mintage)
- Easy to Sell
- Recognized Brand
- Bottom Line
- Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
