Chevrolet’s 1966 Nova SS
The Nova had been around since 1962, but the name was initially used as an upgraded trim level for the Chevrolet II, which debuted that year. Since 1963, the Nova Super Sport (SS) has been the top-of-the-line model. This remained true when the restyled 1966 models were introduced, but for the first time, the Nova SS may be considered a full-fledged muscle vehicle, provided it came standard with the new Turbo Fire engine.

The Chevrolet IIs were released in 1962 to compete with the Ford Falcon, which had been on the market for two years. The Chevrolet II was a highly basic model intended to satisfy many Americans' need for an inexpensive small car. The Nova 400 was developed to supplement the basic models, and the Nova SS was made as the line's sports model (the Super Sport). Throughout the car's first era, engine power increased, and the Turbo Fire was a welcome addition for 1966 because many American drivers were demanding more power as the muscle car period began to take off.

The Nova SS, on the other hand, was only available as a two-door coupe. Although the additional $159 cost of the Nova 400 over the base model might explain why there were about 21,000 Nova SS variants produced, it is possible that this car had something to do with its popularity. The Nova SS was the only model available with front bucket seats in place of the bench seat on all earlier models.

The History of Chevrolet
Chevrolet was once an experimental shop in Detroit, growing throughout the decades until World War II. Most of their assembly plants and production centers were transformed to military or postwar manufacturing, with more lines on the way shortly after.

In 1909, William C. Durant, the originator of Buick Motors Corporation, hired Louis Chevrolet, a well-known race car driver, to make a vehicle ordinary people would buy. After two years of development, the Chevrolet Motor Company of Michigan, established in 1911, began producing automobiles the year after. In 1912, the name "Chevrolet Motor Company" was changed to simply "Chevrolet."
