The Original GM Logo
The General Motors logo was altered for the third time in 1967. It was simpler and less complex than its predecessors. On it, you could see a blue square with rounded corners and a white underlined "GM" wordmark. The wordmark used to be simply "GM" lettering in a conventional Helvetica typeface.

This style of logo was popular for a long time. The designers took out most of the components, making it more basic. All that was required to complete the design was the acronym and a white underline against a blue background. In addition, the limits of the square were removed in 2001.

Throughout the 2000s and 2010s, a glossy 3D effect was added to the simple watermark, as well as the bounds of a square, and eventually a metallic 3D effect took over.

While the designer is unknown, this basic and contemporary version of the GM logo could be recognized anywhere, helping to establish the firm as an innovative business.

General Motors: An American Icon
General Motors, or GM, is an American multinational corporation that designs and sells automobiles, vehicle parts and systems for the passenger and commercial markets.

It has been around since 1908 and now has over 209,000 employees. It was formed in Flint, Michigan as a holding company. GM manufactures automobiles and trucks in 35 countries across the world. GM began with humble beginnings. The Chevrolet Chassis was the company's first car, which was designed by Harley Earl and constructed in New York.

GM was a significant force in the United States' World War II efforts. During WWII, the company produced many weapons for the Allies, including vehicles, tanks and planes. In 1940, William S. Knudsen, the president of General Motors, worked for Franklin D. Roosevelt and oversaw the United States' total war production; by 1942, all of GM's output had been focused on the conflict. Over the years, the firm has provided employment to a large number of individuals. In fact, there are over 1.7 million workers employed in the automobile sector in the United States. This demonstrates just how important GM is to the American economy. It's the most populous automobile manufacturer in the United States and has been the world's major carmaker for 77 years.
