General Motors® Silver Rounds

General Motors was founded in 1908 by William C. Durant in Flint, Michigan, USA. GM rapidly grew and acquired many automakers in its early years, including Chevrolet, Pontiac, Cadillac, and Oldsmobile.

GM played a crucial role during World War II by shifting production to help the war effort. In the late 20th century, GM was the world's largest automaker for several decades.

We offer four different one ounce .999 fine silver and one .9999 fine gold GM round. These GM rounds featuring the GM logo are only available from APMEX. To protect your investment, the rounds are available in TEP-RF-welded plastic polymer cases.

History of the General Motors Logo

The General Motors (GM) logo has undergone several changes since the company's inception. Our rounds feature the years 1967-2021.

GM "Mark of Excellence" (1964-1981)

In the mid-1960s, GM introduced its "Mark of Excellence" emblem. This was a square logo with the letters "GM" in the center. This logo was often found inside GM vehicles, reminding customers of the quality of their purchases.

Underline Era (1981-2001)

The logo slightly changed in 1981, with the letters "GM" becoming underlined. This emphasized the company's name and made the logo more distinctive.

Italic and Blue (2001-2010)

The turn of the millennium saw a shift to a more modern look. The letters were now italicized and placed inside a square, which had a gradient of blue, symbolizing the sky and pointing toward the future.

Plain Blue Square (2010-2021)

GM simplified the logo in 2010, with the italic "GM" letters set against a plain blue square background. This change highlighted GM’s commitment to renewable energy and eco-friendly initiatives.

The GM logo has evolved throughout its history to reflect the company's vision, values, and response to changing market dynamics. As of 2021, GM has been making significant efforts to emphasize its move towards electrification and sustainable transportation.

Our General Motors Logo 1 oz Gold Round

This round is one to watch as we often have special pricing making it an affordable way to obtain .9999 fine gold. It comes packaged in a TEP-RF-welded plastic polymer case (2 1/2" x 3 1/4") to protect the coin's finish. The obverse features the GM logo used from 1967 to 2021. The reverse displays a repeating GM logo.

Tamper-evident Packaging (TEP)

We use TEP to help protect the value of your rounds, coins, and bars. Tamper-evident packaging is designed to show visible signs of tampering if someone has tried to open or interfere with the package. The purpose is to protect the integrity of the package contents and assure the buyer you that it has not been tampered with since it left the our facility.
