The Modern General Motors Logo
General Motors introduced a new brand identity in 2021 in an effort to amplify public interest in buying electric cars. The corporation says its new appearance – which was created by in-house designer Bianca Iacopelli - is more "modern and vibrant" than the standard blue square. According to Sharon Gauci, Global Industrial Design at GM's executive director, "the underline of the 'm' connects to the previous GM logos as well as visually representing the Ultium EV platform [GM's tech that powers electric vehicles]. And within the negative space of the 'm' is a nod to the shape of an electrical plug."

The latest color logo appears in solid black, blue, as well as a new blue gradient. The vibrant blue gradient colors "[evokes] the clean skies of a zero-emissions future and the energy of the Ultium EV platform. The rounded edges and lowercase font create a more modern, inclusive feel," according to Gauci. The future looks hopeful at GM because they are at the forefront of developing a wide variety of electric vehicles that are available different price points.

General Motors: An American Icon
General Motors, also known as GM, is a multinational corporation that creates and sells automobiles, vehicle components, and systems for the passenger and commercial markets. It was established as a holding company in Flint, Michigan and now has over 209,000 employees. GM produces automobiles and trucks in 35 countries across the world. This brand's cars may be found all over the world, including under other brands, but it originally began modestly.

GM also had a sizeable impact on the United States' fight efforts during World War II. During WWII, GM produced many weapons for the Allies, including cars, tanks and aircraft. In 1940, GM's William S. Knudsen oversaw America's wartime production for Franklin Roosevelt, and by 1942, all of GM's output had been committed to the war effort.

The company has long been a source of employment for many individuals. In fact, in the United States 1.7 million people work in the automobile sector. This goes to show just how important GM has been and still is to the American economy. It is the world's largest auto maker for 77 years, and it is the biggest automobile company in the United States.
