North African Currency

APMEX offers a superb selection of North African Currency issued during World War II. During World War II, the U.S. government put things in place to protect itself in case enemies got a hold of large amounts of currency. For troops throughout North Africa and Sicily, this meant carrying Silver Certificates with yellow treasury seals (instead of the blue seals characteristic of the times). In the event that troops were captured, these notes could be easily identified and disavowed.

Collectors that are instead interested in collecting modern, standard U.S. currency might want to consider options like the $500 dollar bill. This is technically still legal tender, even though it's no longer in active production. This is a great entry point to collecting modern paper currency.
