The American Innovation $1 Coin Act was approved by the U.S. Senate and U.S. Congress in June, 2018 before being signed into law by President Trump on July 18, 2018. The program launched on December 14, 2018 with an introductory coin commemorating George Washington signing the first American patent. The series will include 57 total releases honoring innovation and innovators from all 50 U.S. states and several territories. While the reverse will change with each Innovation Dollar release, the obverse on each coin will remain the same, depicting the Statue of Liberty and the words "In God We Trust" along with the $1 denomination.
