Released in 1796 with the intent to replace the Spanish Two Reales coin, early quarters are comprised of the Draped Bust and Capped Bust type designs. The 1796 date is particularly rare, with a mintage of only 6,146 pieces. The 1804 date is popular with collectors. In the Capped Bust type, the 1823 date is the key date.
