Byzantine Empire Gold, Silver and Bronze Coins

Byzantine coins, Byzantine Empire 476 AD – 1453 AD, comprise those struck in the Eastern Roman Empire, the capital of which was Constantinople. The most popular of which are the Gold solidus and the copper follis.

Byzantine coin designs featured Christian symbols and eventually included the bust of Christ on the obverse. Byzantine coins are considered "ancient" due to the fact that they were direct extensions of earlier Roman coinage practices and are collected as such.
