The Byzantine Empire lasted for almost 1,000 years after the fall of the Roman Empire in the West. Its capitol, Constantinople (present day Istanbul, Turkey), was founded by Constantine the Great in 324 AD and fell to the Turks in 1453 AD. Byzantine coins form a bridge between the ancient and medieval worlds, developing a style of their own over their 1,000-year run.

Byzantine Coin

Was this review helpful? Yes/ No

I bought two for fun just to see what I would receive. As someone who loves history it was a lot of fun to see these coins and then do research to put a rough date on each one and see what it actually was to the people who used them. Of course being hundreds to thousands of years old they are well worn. Not the prettiest coins I ever bought but very fun. Would recommend to any with a love of history.

  • Pros
  • Collectible (lower mintage)
  • Bottom Line
  • Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
