Also known as Princess Diana of the Amazons and the daughter of Zeus, Wonder Woman is said to be stronger than even Hercules. She leads by example, focusing on bringing truth (with her lasso) and justice to the world. A compassionate warrior, she dislikes violence and hopes for a world without war.

Wonder Woman
William Mouton, an American writer and psychologist, and artist Harry G. Peter created super heroine, Wonder Woman in 1941 for DC Comics. Featured in American comic books published by DC Comics, the character first appeared in All Start Comics #8 published in the fall of 1941. In January of 1942, she made her premier appearance in Sensation Comics #1. Well received by comic aficionados, Wonder Woman has been virtually been published by DC Comics continuously since.

Wonder Woman hails from the fantasy nation of Themyscira and her official title is Princess Diana of Themyscira. Upon leaving her homeland, she used her civilian identity, Diana Prince. Like all super heroes, Wonder Woman has an origin story. Hers involves her mother, Queen Hippolya sculpting Diana from clay and given life as an Amazon. She was also fortified with superpowers from the Greek gods. In her arsenal of magic tools, she holds the Lasso of Truth, a pair of indestructible bracelets, a tiara that doubles as a projectile, and in older tales, several gadgets created from Amazonian technology.

Over the years, Diana's history has shifted. In 2011, DC comics adjusted her background with the retcon that she is the biological daughter of Zeus and Hippolyta, but was jointly raised by her mother and her aunts Antiope and Menalippie. In the late 1960s, the Wonder Woman character lost all of her powers for a short period. In the 1980s, artist George Perez revamped her look, giving her a more athletic appearance, which punctuated her Amazonian heritage. Originally created during World War II, she is depicted fighting Axis forces and colorful super villains. As with many aspects of the character, she shifted her focus to dueling with deities and Greek mythological monsters.

Most commonly, Wonder Woman is show freeing herself from trouble, providing a counterpoint to the common 1940s "Damsel in Distress" troupe. The character is a reoccuring figure in popular culture and is recognized world-wide. She is featured in various forms of media like radio, television and film.
