The Los Angeles Chargers are a professional football team based in the Los Angeles metropolitan area, competing in the National Football League (NFL) as a member of the AFC West division. The franchise was founded in 1960 as a charter member of the American Football League (AFL), playing its inaugural season in Los Angeles before relocating to San Diego in 1961, where it became known as the San Diego Chargers for over five decades.
