The Alamo
The Alamo is one of the most enduring symbols of Texas history and the fight for independence. Originally established in the 18th century as Mission San Antonio de Valero, it became the site of the pivotal 1836 Battle of the Alamo, where a small group of Texian defenders made a legendary stand against Mexican forces. Though the battle was lost, the sacrifice at the Alamo galvanized support for the Texas Revolution and inspired the rallying cry “Remember the Alamo,” which ultimately led to Texas securing its independence.
