The Battle of Gettysburg, the Union victory in the summer of 1863 that ended General Robert E. Lee's second and most ambitious invasion of the North, was a turning point in the Civil War. Often referred to as the "High Water mark of the Rebellion," it was among the war's bloodiest battles, with 51,000 casualties.

The Gettysburg 5oz coin came in perfect condition at a great price as it was on sale. Coin came in protective capsule which is a plus as many companies just ship them in flips.

With the Gettysburg being the lowest mintage of the entire series I thought the price would have climbed as the 2010 series did. However, it appears I was wrong on that assumption . In fact, it is cheaper to buy today November 1 st 2016 than it was 5 years ago. So I have switched over to the 5 oz Hobo Nickle series they made only 1,000 each of those. A much better chance of those going up in price .
- Pros
- Value (low premium over spot)
- Bottom Line
- Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.

I bought my first coin of this series (2011 Gettysburg) thinking I would enjoy coin even if I don't continue to purchase entire series. I am still on the fence with this series. The reverse side is just a quarter. No special design or enhanced image. Coin does not have weight or purity which would enhance value, I think. Trading at a high premium over spot in some of the lower mintage years makes me question how good an investment this will be in the long term.
- Pros
- Collectible (lower mintage)
- Mint Condition
- Cons
- Unattractive Design
- Hard to Sell
- Bottom Line
- No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I was very happy to see this coin come in the original plastic bag from the US mint. It will remain that way until ever sell it. I paid roughly @ the price of an extra ounce of silver for these coins but I'm certain it will increase in value far beyond that as the other coins in this series have.
- Pros
- Attractive Design
- Mint Condition
- Recognized Brand
- Bottom Line
- Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.

I've purchased silver coins (Canadian 1 ounce) before and sold it back after it doubled in price a few years ago and am very impressed with APMEX and their process. Highly recommend.
