Mount Rushmore stands 5,725 feet above sea level and was selected as the carve site for the 60-foot-tall monument due to its smooth fine-grained granite, which erodes only one inch every 10,000 years. It was designed and sculpted by renowned sculptor Gutzon Borglum, who was born in 1867 in the Idaho Territory.

The project cost almost $1 million, began on October 4, 1927 and finished on October 31, 1941. Mount Rushmore features four of the United States' most prominent presidents: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. However, this coin only depicts Washington and Jefferson.

more detail wanted

Was this review helpful? Yes/ No

I was hoping the details of the coin would stand out even more. It's not like it was a one ounce coin. Even the 1991 Rushmore coin had more detail.

  • Attractive Design
  • Bottom Line
  • Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.

Beautiful Silver

Was this review helpful? Yes/ No

This is a beautiful way to invest in silver and have something that has a very appealing design to look at. It also should appreciate in value much faster than simple silver bars or silver rounds. It is a sound purchase since it is issued by the US Mint.

  • Recognized Brand
  • Collectible (lower mintage)
  • Attractive Design
  • Mint Condition
  • Bottom Line
  • Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.

Just beautiful

Was this review helpful? Yes/ No

I bought this as my first 5 OZ silver commemorative coin. I also bought 4 others at the same time and they are all amazing. The work involved in the design and then the stamping is incredible. I think the US Mint has one of the most beautiful coin ideas/designs in the world right now with these coins and i can't wait for the Everglades. Which I will order from Apmex because their shipping and customer care is second to none. I shop from the mints of the world as well as coin shops, and the service I rec'd from Apmex was, and continues to be great Thanks

  • Pros
  • Mint Condition
  • Collectible (lower mintage)
  • Attractive Design
  • Bottom Line
  • Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.

Fast Shipping

Was this review helpful? Yes/ No

I have a few of these already that I purchased locally. Most of the ones I have almost look proof like and are at least in BU condition. I received this one from Apmex very fast but was disappointed with the condition. Lots of marks and the front looks like someone used a brillo pad on it. Very disappointing with the condition.

  • Pros
  • Easy to Sell
  • Attractive Design
  • Recognized Brand
  • Value (low premium over spot)
  • Cons
  • Poor Condition
  • Bottom Line
  • No, I would not recommend this to a friend

My favorite of the ATB so far!!

Was this review helpful? Yes/ No

I think these coins really are superb......My only complaint is, and this is no fault of APMEX, these coins tend to have many visible buff marks from the mint. I guess stamping a 3", 5 Ounce coin has it's drawbacks and the biggest one I can see is the difficulty in buffing and keeping such a big coin in mint condition. A few are pristine but most will show faint buff marks but I still love these coins!

  • Pros
  • Collectible (lower mintage)
  • Easy to Sell
  • Attractive Design
  • Bottom Line
  • Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
