For the first time since their 1986 introduction, the Gold and Silver Eagles received an updated design mid-year 2021. This mid-year introduction, coming at a time of unprecedented demand for bullion, led to a very limited supply of coins available at launch.

2021 Gold Eagle Design
The United States Mint unveiled the new reverse designs for the 2021 American Eagle Gold coins. 2021 marked the 35th anniversary of the American Eagle coin program, and the new designs began appearing on these coins in mid-year 2021. Mint Artistic Infusion Program (AIP) designer Jennie Norris created the new Gold coin design that was sculpted by Mint Medallic Artist Renata Gordon. The new reverse design depicts a bold, up-close portrait of an eagle. The obverse has been revised with additional detail from the original design by Augustus Saint-Gaudens to enhance this classic image.

MintDirect® Premier
APMEX has designated all products delivered by the U.S. Mint in the first month of release that go through the MintDirect® sealing process as MintDirect® Premier. By using this process, APMEX can guarantee that the coins you receive are authentic and in the exact condition as they were when they left the United States Mint. The MintDirect® process gives investors a confidence in their purchase, knowing that they can buy, hold or sell an authentic coin — guaranteed.

MintDirect® Premier with PCGS FirstStrike®
APMEX has partnered with PCGS to add the assurance and recognition of the PCGS FirstStrike® designation to the MintDirect® Premier product. After reviewing and vetting the MintDirect® process, PCGS recognizes these 2021 MintDirect® Premier Gold Eagles as meeting their strict requirements for FirstStrike® eligibility if submitted for grading in their original sealed packaging.

The sealing process seals the coin within the authentication card, creating a tamper-evident package that will guarantee your investment indefinitely. After the process is completed, the coin in the tamper-evident package is removed from the machine and checked to ensure that the quality of the packaging meets our exacting standards.
