A Classic Series Reimagined

For the first time since 1986, the American Gold and Silver Eagles are receiving an eagerly-awaited new design and will be available in July 2021. This mid-year introduction by the U.S. Mint combined with a high popularity makes the supply of FirstStrike® and First Day of Issue Coins very limited. These reimagined Type 2 American Eagles commemorate 35 years of one of the world’s most recognizable coin series, perfect for any collection.

The New Gold Eagle Design

The New Gold Eagle Design

The original Gold Eagle design has appeared on more than 44 million bullion coins in the past 35 years. The new Gold Type 2 coin’s obverse displays familiar classic images inspired by the famous Saint-Gaudens original design of the 1907 Double Eagle, one of the most popular U.S. coin designs of all time. A bold close-up portrait of a bald eagle appears on the reverse, created by designer Jennie Norris to showcase the intensity of the eagle’s expression.

The New Silver Eagle Design

Since 1986, the classic Silver Eagle design has been used on more than 570 million bullion coins, making it among the most widely seen designs in the Silver market. The coin’s obverse shows an updated Walking Liberty design, bringing a new look to this popular series while still maintaining its classic appeal to Adolph Weinman’s original 1916 design. The reverse of the coin was created by designer Emily Damstra, and features a bald eagle carrying an oak branch as if it were building a nest. Also, the eagle’s spread wings are a symbol for strength and independence.

Direct from The U.S. Mint

The U.S. Mint does not sell bullion coins directly to the public. Instead, only a handful of authorized purchasers, like APMEX, sell these coins. We are one of very few dealers authorized to purchase all four Precious Metals from the U.S. Mint, as well as the only retailer to sell them. This ensures our customers are among the very first to receive their coins.
