Assassin's Creed®
The open-world action video game, Assassin's Creed®, debuted in 2007 and has since released 12 main games and 17 spin-offs, with the most recent installment being Valhalla. The games cover the conflict between the Order of Assassins and the Templars in different periods and places in time. The games incorporate science fiction and historical fiction to create a blended world of fictional characters with historical events and figures. Gameplay
The game is played in the third-person view and focuses on stealth abilities and ninja-like parkour movements. Every protagonist is outfitted with the iconic assassin weapon, the "Hidden Blade," to take down enemies in a stealthy manner.

Premise
The protagonist enters into a specific time period by using a virtual reality technology called the Animus, which was created by Abstergo Industries – a front for the Templar Order in the modern day. The machine allows players to access memories of an ancient assassin through genetic synchronizing, and oftentimes the protagonist is a descendant of the assassin they are viewing the memories of. The Templar created this machine to gather information about the Pieces of Eden and the Assassin Brotherhood to better understand how to use the Pieces of Eden to control humankind. The Pieces of Eden were created by the Isu with the goal of enslaving humans, so it has been up to the assassin’s to stop the Templar from abusing their power.
