About the Discover Australia Series
Launched in January 2006, Discover Australia is a part of a multi-year coin program comprising proof quality pure gold coins, pure silver coins and pure platinum coins. The obverse design of each coin displays the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. The reverse of each coin features the design of an animal that is unique to Australia. The designs include the Saltwater Crocodile, Grey Kangaroo, Emu, Koala and Kookaburra. Each coin is struck from 1/2 oz of 99.99% pure gold and is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965.
This set is attractively housed in the original wood box as issued from The Perth Mint.
