The History of the Morgan Dollar
The Morgan Silver Dollar was designed by George T. Morgan, the assistant engraver to William Barber at the Philadelphia Mint during 1878-1921. The 1881-CC Morgan dollar is one of the most famous coins in American History because it's known for having never circulated within America's economy and only being found in Europe, where they had circulated as legal tender since 1887.The 1881-CC Morgan dollar was not minted in 1882 after an investigation concluded that coins were already sent overseas before their coining process was complete. As a result, 1882 became the only year in which no Morgan dollars were produced at all.
