The new American Gold Eagle designs were first seen on these coins in mid-year 2021 and will continue to be the new standard. The Gold coin layout depicting a close-up portrait of America's national bird - the American bald eagle - was created by Mint Artistic Infusion Program designer Jennie Norris. The original Augustus Saint-Gaudens design from 1907 has been modified on the obverse.
