The History of Chevrolet
Chevrolet began in a tiny experimental shop in Detroit that grew over time until the Second World War, when it became General Motors. With new assembly plants on the way, an additional five manufacturing sites and 11 assembly plants were converted to war manufacture and postwar production.
In 1909, before they had even thought of starting a business, William C. Durant approached Louis Chevrolet, a famous race car driver, to design a vehicle for the general public. In 1911, the Chevrolet Motor Company of Michigan was established and began producing automobiles shortly after. The vehicles proved to be exceptionally popular, and they went on to become a division of General Motors in 1918. Chevrolet sales passed the one million mark for the first time in 1927, and it was at or near the top in terms of sales every year from 1931 until 1941.
