2022 South Africa 1/4 oz Gold Krugerrand BU
The Gold Krugerrand was introduced in 1967 to become the first modern Gold bullion coin in the world. This classic Gold bullion coin series remains a favorite of investors and collectors today. The Krugerrand was minted to help promote South African Gold to markets across the globe. Krugerrands were never given face values, but were designed to derive their value from the current price of Gold at the time they are traded. The Gold Krugerrand is prized around the world, with a highly sought-after design inspired by the country’s history.
They feature the South African Republic's first president, Paul Kruger, on the obverse as a reminder of the 19th century South African political and military affairs. On the reverse, a springbok antelope, which is the national animal, along with the date of minting and Gold weight. On the Krugerrand Gold coin, the springbok seems to be leaping into action.
South African Mint
In 1886, Gold was discovered near the Witwatersrand area of Johannesburg and President Paul Kruger decided to establish a national mint. Today, the South African Mint is one of the world's top exporting mints. Today, the South African Mint manufactures Proof Krugerrand and works with the Rand Refinery to mint the bullion Krugerrand. The mint produces coins on behalf of and is a wholly owned subsidiary of the South African Reserve Bank.
South Africa began minting fractional Krugerrand Gold coins in 1980 to help buyers of limited means obtain Gold at an affordable price. Each of these 2022 South African Krugerrands will be in Brilliant Uncirculated condition.
