Product Details
Thousands of years old, the lunar calendar measures time based on the cycles of the moon. Influential in the decisions and beliefs of millions of adherents over time, it is associated with many myths and legends.

According to one of the most popular stories, the Chinese emperor decreed that all 12 years in a complete lunar cycle would be overseen by an auspicious zodiac animal. A race for the honor of representing the first year was won by the mouse, which was followed by the ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog and pig.

As well as bestowing their distinctive character traits and affinities, these animals were said to exert a powerful influence on the lives of people born under their rule.

Coin Highlights:
  • Contains 5 oz of .999 fine Silver.
  • Limited mintage of only 488 coins!
  • Each coin is housed in a classic display case within an illustrated shipper and accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity.
  • Obverse: Depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, her years of reign: 1952-2022, the weight and fineness, the 2023 year-date and the monetary denomination.
  • Reverse: The coin portrays the 12 lunar animals in color. Included in the artistry are representations of sacred mountains, clouds symbolizing good fortune, and plants including bamboo, daisies, sunflowers, peonies and pine trees, longstanding floral motifs in traditional Chinese art. The lunar animals surround a bagua, a motif incorporating eight Taoist trigrams representing the yin and yang present in all things. It also includes a taijitu, a black and white symbol that denotes the interdependence of yin and yang energy.
