This coin is from the wreck of the El Cazador, a Spanish vessel laden with fresh coins from the port of Vera Cruz, Mexico. It was lost on its way to the Louisiana Territory, then owned by Spain, in 1784 and did not resurface again until 1993.

Coin Highlights:
  • 8 Reales recovered from the El Cazador which sank south of New Orleans.
  • Struck in Lima, Peru.
