With founder Alexander Graham Bell's invention of the telephone in 1875, the story of AT&T, which is really the story of the telephone industry within the United States, began. After a continual progression of acquisitions and mergers, American Telephone and Telegraph Company today stands as a subsidiary of AT&T Inc, the renamed "Baby Bell" that was SBC Communications which acquired AT&T Corp in 2005 for $16 Billion.
