The Armenian Silver Noah’s Ark bullion coin is a tribute to Armenia’s connection with the tale of Noah’s Ark. First released in 2011, the Noah’s Ark bullion coin is issued by the Central Bank of Armenia, although it is not produced in the country. Available in a wide variety of sizes including 1/4 oz, 1/2 oz, 1 oz, 5 oz, 10 oz, 1 kilo and 5 kilos, all containing .999 fine Silver, this coin is valued all over the world for its purity, quality and beautiful homage to Noah’s Ark.
The obverse of the coin features the coat of arms of the Republic of Armenia and the face value, metal purity and mintmark. The reverse image, designed by Eduard Kurghinyan, proudly boasts a dove in flight with an olive branch in its beak and Noah’s Ark floating on the floodwaters in front of Mount Ararat with the rising sun in the background. This design was chosen because of Armenia’s connection to Mount Ararat and its connection to the biblical tale of Noah’s Ark. As told in the Book of Genesis, following the great flood, Noah’s Ark landed at the peak of Mount Ararat. Although it is widely believed by scholars and scientists alike that this mountain is not the actual resting place of the great ark, the significance of Mount Ararat to the Armenian people has been memorialized on this coin.
The Armenian Silver Noah’s Ark bullion coin is not produced in the eastern European country, but rather in Germany by Leipziger Edelmetallverarbeitungs GmbH, an affiliate of the private mint Geiger Edelmetalle. The mint, one of the most modern in the world, has more than 1,000 years of experience in mining and processing Silver. Geiger Edelmetalle was founded in 1218 in Leipzig, by merchants who established the oldest Silver trade in Germany.
