North America's heaviest land animal is the Bison bison, known commonly as the American bison. For millennia, the bison and its ancestors dominated much of central North America, from what is now Alaska through the Canadian prairies and American Midwest, as far south as central Mexico and as far east as near the Appalachians of the United States.
A world leader in producing high-quality coins and bars, the Royal Canadian Mint was founded in 1908 and is responsible for a number of breathtaking depictions of North America’s natural wonders and wildlife.

why is it the Canadians are better at pricing the coins at face value? This is what I would call a shrek coin. Solid! slightly smaller diameter than us eagle and 1.5 times thickness.
- Pros
- Attractive Design
- Bottom Line
- Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.

What is not to like about his coin? Have not tried to insert it into a 38mm capsule so I can't tell you if they fit in them. At 4mm thick they are impressive. A much better rendering of a Bison than the earlier 1oz version that Canada minted for their Wildlife Series. 1.25oz coin - a great idea!
- Pros
- Value (low premium over spot)
- Attractive Design
- Collectible (lower mintage)
- Easy to Sell
- Mint Condition
- Recognized Brand
- Bottom Line
- Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.

I purchased this on a whim and I'm glad I did. The design and level of detail is fantastic; a very handsome looking coin with an exceptional amount of fine detail. I really do like this coin and recommend it. That said, I'm not sold on the 1.25 oz size. They are basically the same diameter as a silver maple leaf but are thicker. This makes them a bit awkward to find airtites for (I admittedly haven't tried a standard 38mm, but went with a X38 with the foam ring) and you don't get any more artwork than you do for a less expensive coin. Love the design and level of detail, but don't think I'll buy another 1.25 oz coin. Definitely don't regret the purchase, though.
- Pros
- Value (low premium over spot)
- Attractive Design
- Mint Condition
- Recognized Brand

I liked the looks of this coin so I purchased some. They seem to be really rough around the edge of the coin like it did not go through final grinding process. It could be because the coin is larger 1.25 oz. therefore the edge ridges are larger but the edge is almost sharp and rough.
- Pros
- Value (low premium)
- Known Brand
- Bottom Line
- No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I'll give it 5 stars because overall it's very nice. There are several scratches mostly along the rim but it's a beautiful coin. Wish it was in better shape, I'll get another to try my luck again.

- Known Brand
- Cons
- Poor Condition
