Slightly granular yellow Gold surfaces are present on this specimen, as are typical for the issue. Scattered marks are primarily constrained to the fields as are typical for the grade.

- Obverse: Designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, the obverse depicts Liberty striding forward holding a torch and an olive branch with the U.S. Capitol building in the backdrop.
- Reverse: Designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, the reverse features an eagle in flight against the sun in the background.
- Due to public outcry, the Motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" was put back on the coin against President Theodore Roosevelt's wishes. The motto was placed between the sun and its rays on the Reverse.
