Congress started the American Gold Eagle program in 1986, and it turned into an international sensation. American Gold Eagles are the first investment coin officially guaranteed by the U.S. government.
A record of strength and liberty are represented in the designs. On the front face of the American Eagle, Lady Liberty steps fearlessly into the unknown, holding a torch along with an olive branch. On the reverse is an exquisitely designed likeness of the bald eagle, America’s sign of liberty. Each 1/10 oz American Gold Eagle coin consists of .9167 fine gold.
