In 1999, the West Point Mint accidentally produced what has become one of the most important rarities of the 20th century by striking a limited quantity of uncirculated 1/4 oz Gold American Eagle coins with the "W" mint mark below the date. In this case, the dies never received the special polishing that gives Proof coins their deep, mirrorlike qualities.

Truly an "American classic coin" to own with a ultra rare story about this beautiful coin that was made in low numbers. I bought this same coin in "BU MS-60-63" and housed it in a coin container air tight brought from Apmex which carries a nice inventory of everything you could use to keep all your coins in a safe and moisture environment. Check it out! James D.
