During his reign, Gordian III, the youngest sole emperor in Roman history, ascended the throne at just 13 years old. Despite his youth, his rule was marked by military campaigns against the Persian Empire. His sudden and mysterious death during his eastern campaign remains one of the great uncertainties of Roman history, with some sources suggesting he was assassinated by his own general, Philip the Arab.
