Phoenecian Silver Shekel struck in the region of Tyre, present-day Lebanon. The legendary Shekel of Tyre thought to be currency that the Romans paid Judas Iscariot to betray Jesus with.
Coin Highlights:
- AR Shekel struck during in year 161 (35-36 AD); "Money of the Bible". 13.68 grams.
- Shekels of Tyre were accepted as payment for the temple tax at Jerusalem.
- Very strong remaining details and strike, considered to be in Ch XF (Choice Extra Fine) condition.
- Obverse: Bust of Melkart.
- Reverse: Eagle standing left; palm over shoulder, date above club to left.
