Pre-1965 90% Silver coins, sometimes referred to as junk Silver or scrap Silver, are a great way to start your Silver investments. These Silver coins were pulled from circulation with the introduction of copper/nickel clad coins and the rising demand of Silver. The public saved them for their 90% Silver content as a rainy day fund they can fall back on.
How much are Mercury Dimes worth? While certain Mercury dimes have numismatic value, most are what is commonly called "junk Silver." Junk Silver refers to any 90% Silver U.S. coin without numismatic value. Mercury dimes are a great entrance to Silver stacking for both investors and collectors. At APMEX, you can purchase 90% Silver Mercury dimes by the bag!

Considered junk silver with a near microscopic premium per coin, these circulated mercury dimes, mostly from the 1940's have great eye appeal. I remember some of our local gas stations in the 1980's would trade one of these for a gallon of gasoline. It could happen again.
- Pros
- Value (low premium over spot)
- Attractive Design
- Recognized Brand
- Bottom Line
- Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
