I bought this certified 1916-D Mercury Dime, along with a 1921 and 1921-D, to complete my collection of these dimes. When you contemplate buying a 1916-D, you have to be prepared to spend, no matter the grade. In my opinion this is the lowest acceptable grade (AG-03), but is still several hundred dollars. In order not to be disappointed, I wrote a note saying that if the date and mint mark were not legible, I would be returning it. However, being PCGS certified, I thought the chances of that were low, and that's how it turned out. I did not get the one pictured, but it is practically an identical twin, my coin being a little darker in toning. I'm just happy I was able to put together a 77-coin Merc collection in less than a year for just under $1,000 (and this one coin cost 2/3 the entire collection) from coins I got from Apmex and one other dealer. From order to mail box was something like 63 hours, can't complain there. The PCGS holder was enclosed in a resealable plastic bag that was just a bit larger. APMEX does a great job almost all the time!
- Pros
- Collectible (lower mintage)
- Bottom Line
- Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.
