1909-D $5 Indian Gold Half Eagle MS-63 PCGS
The $5 Indian Gold Half Eagle is also known as the Capped Bust to Right Half Eagle. It contained 90% Gold and was first made in 1795 by the U.S. Mint. It was produced until 1933 during the Great Depression when President Roosevelt ended the production of Gold coinage.
The $5 Indian Gold Half Eagle was initially struck by use of a hand-operated screw press and required ten steps to mint each coin. Steam-powered coin presses were introduced at the Philadelphia Mint in 1837 and these two techniques are the reason $5 Indian Gold Half Eagles are valuable and rare in today’s market. - Specifications
